Shri Swamy Vari temple is Swayambhu and the antecedents of this goes back to Adi krutayugaaccording to Kshethra Mahatmyam. There is a written history of 29 generations about the priests (Dynasty tree-Vamsha Vruksham ) of this temple which is second longest written Vamsha Vruksham available to till date. The Sampradaya that is followed in this temple is Dwaita. This Madhwa sampradaya is being followed from more than two centuries in this temple and there is regular visit of the pontiffs of Uttaradimath to this temple which is under the supervision of  Uttaradimath  from day one.
